The Create the Space Dinner Experience 002 explored the topic of “Equity in Community.” How can we as leaders ensure we are creating the space for our communities to expand with diverse thinking and new ideas? How does diversity and inclusion promote a healthier, more productive community?
The experience was hosted by Philip Musey and Cabral Clements, co-producers and creators of the short film “The Inventor”. During the evening, we minted 10 of our exclusive NFT tokens and watched a private screening of the film followed by dinner and discussion.
The Inventor tells the story of Garrett A. Morgan, a Cleveland-based, African-American inventor who most notably patented the three-signal traffic light and created a precursor to the modern gas mask. Set in 1916, this short film explores the business and moral dilemma Garrett faced after he and his brother Frank used an invention of Garrett’s own making to rescue miners trapped in an underground inferno and were left out of the story entirely.

Hosted in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, the evening started with leaders gathering to connect and build community.
Philip Musey and Cabral Clements introduced their short film, The Inventor, bringing guests closer to the powerful story of Garrett A. Morgan.
Over dinner, the topic of equity in community was discussed. Each guest brought their perspective and stories to the table to dive deeper into takeaways from the film and how we see equity showing up in our lives.
